(OLNEY/NEWTON) With the National Weather Service predicting a major snow event for our downstate area late tonight through tomorrow and Sunday, the citizens of and those traveling through Olney & Newton are reminded to keep those designated Emergency Snow Route Streets clear of any vehicles in the event that such an emergency is declared, which requires at least 2 inches of snow or more. The Snow Route Streets in both Newton and Olney, which are marked by posted signs, should be clear of all vehicles by tonight so that if needed, city snowplows can clear these most important streets as often as possible without any issues with parked vehicles. Drivers in Olney and Newton should also be aware of the city salt trucks and other utility vehicles. The Cities of Newton and Olney appreciate the cooperation in this matter. Motorists also should be alert for IDOT and local Township snowplows as they keep area roads and highways clear.
