Area county fairs are finishing up this weekend : the Marion County Fair in Salem, it’s the NTPA Grand National Tractor Pull tonight at 7:00 and the fair finale Horse Pull is tomorrow, on Sunday : the Effingham County Fair in Altamont will have its finale with the Demolition Derby tonight at 6:30 : the Lawrence County Fair ended last night : meanwhile, the Illinois State Fair in Springfield is scheduled to start next Thursday night, August 9, and run eleven days & nights through Sunday, August 19.
The American Red Cross still has its “urgent call” in place for blood donations while the need is critical for type “O” blood. Here’s the upcoming area blood drives : today at the Blood Donation Center in Effingham from 7:45 to 2:15 : next Monday at the Christian Church Annex in Mason from 2:00 to 6:00 : next Tuesday at the Altamont Grade School from 12:00 to 5:00 : also next Tuesday at the YMCA in Mattoon from 2:00 to 6:00 : all blood types & platelets are needed, especially type “O”.
The Holy Cross Parish will host its annual Wendelin Picnic tomorrow (8/5/18). The chicken dinner tickets go on sale at 10:45 Sunday morning (first come / first serve) with serving lines running from 11:00 to 5:00. Also a Pedal Tractor Pull from 2:00 to 3:30 for those ages 3 to 10, plus more, including a country store, beer garden, inflatables, various games, a watermelon stand, and a lunch stand with other food and soft drinks. Plenty of live music throughout the day and night, plus the raffle drawing at 7:00. All are invited.
There are two free Swims coming up this weekend at the Musgrove Aquatic Center in Olney : Helia HealthCare will host a Free Swim Night tonight from 6:00 to 8:00 with all Richland County families invited to attend. Then the Olney Elks 926 will host a Free Pool Night tomorrow night from 6:00 to 8:00, open to all Richland County families, plus there will be free bags with school supplies for all school aged children. Not to mention free food & drinks afterwards provided by Pizza Fast & Prairie Farms Dairy.
The Newton Aquatic Center will have a free Pool Day this afternoon from 1:00 to 3:00, courtesy of the Dieterich Bank in Newton. That’s for anyone who attends at the Newton Aquatic Center today, A free Pool Day from 1:00 to 3:00 this Saturday afternoon, all sponsored by the Dieterich Bank.
The annual community wide garage sales at the Grove Township Community Center, southeast of Montrose, is this morning from 7:00 to 12:00. This also includes some of the area houses near the Center, plus the Center will also have pork burgers for sale as well. All are invited out this Saturday morning.
